Le mot de l'architecte... The architect's word

The D36P project starts from the idea to open a new era in the Performance line of Dufour Yachts.
Felci Yachts Design Staff and Dufour Yacht’s managements feels that the time to change has come.
The “old” Performance line had invented some fantastic “fast cruisers”, capable of  great sailing performances and  of great race results thanks to their innovative hydrodynamics concepts, their high level construction and also thanks to their very good rating/performance ratio.

So what have we designed to do a better boat?
The answer is not easy.
As usual the result is not made by one single vision.
The new Dufour 36 Performance is thanks to a great mix of developments made by the “team”.
I mean by my staff, by Dufour Yacht’s Managements, by Dufour Yacht’s Technical Office and by the shipyard in general.
The concept we have decided to follow was to make a faster boat on the water, a lager boat to live outside, and a more stable and comfortable sailing yacht.

And why not, inside the boat is great, made with an elegant mix between white and plywood furniture, built to be simple, efficient, easy to use and to maintain.
The layout is classical but with the introduction of several novelties will surprise for its functionality and its modern feeling.

To make the hull faster we have developed our recent hydrodynamics research and we have made a high balanced and all round hull.  The bow volume gives great power upwind, the hull has the best possible beam and canoe draft ratio, and the aft part of the canoe is a complete evolution for a production boat.  The slope angle is low and the waterline length is longer than in the precedent Performance.  The dynamic length is also longer and proportionally  will gave a great speed potential, specially downwind with heavy conditions.
The chine is just a stern refinement in order to “cut” the flow at high speed, but the hull typical section run all over the hull and gives the lowest drag associated with the highest form stability.
The appendages are in line with this new “racy” hull shape, being quite deep and efficient.  The keel has a “t” bulb configuration in order to have the lowest center of gravity associated with the lowest drag, as the rudder is deep enough to give great sensations and to guarantee a complete control in any conditions.

What about the style? Simply new. A development of the well appreciated and innovative trend introduced years ago by Dufour yachts and now revisited and updated stylistically by our creativity and our sense of proportions and beauty.
But as aesthetics is something very personal we let the public appreciate this at the coming boat shows.

About the construction I prefer let Dufour’s engineers introduce their great job and all the developments made.
